God the Holy Spirit is called the Holy Spirit or the Spirit of truth and is the Spirit of God. We know that in the beginning, when God created the world the Holy Spirit was present and active.
The following scripture tells us:
And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
God the Father was never alone, Jesus and the Holy Spirit have been with Him since the beginning of time. Many people will say they know of God and they know of Jesus; but when we mention the Holy Spirit, that’s where we lose them. Even some Christians of various denominations are baffled by Him. They can accept that God and Jesus are in heaven, but The Holy Spirit of God who dwells in the earth and within us, is a genuine challenge for the world.
Jesus speaks of the Holy Spirit many times. In the book of John, Jesus is speaking to His disciples and comforting them knowing that He has to leave them shortly and confirms that the Holy Spirit will come:
And I will pray the Father, and He shall give you another Comforter (The Holy Spirit,) that He may abide with you for ever;
The concept of the Holy Spirit baffles the world over, but Christ also says the world cannot accept Him because they don’t know Him. If they haven’t accepted Christ, they cannot accept the Holy Spirit and indeed some who do accept Christ still cannot accept the Holy Spirit.
Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it sees Him not, neither knows Him: but you know Him; for He dwells with you, and shall be in you.
He dwells within us, but not against our will, only when we ask Him to come into our lives and ask Him to fill us with His Holy presence. The world does not know Him, but every Christian should. If you are a Christian and have no idea who the Holy Spirit is, start asking the Lord to reveal Himself to you, remember He is God the Holy Spirit. When you try to explain to people who the Holy Spirit is, you have to do it from your personal testimony standpoint because trying to prove He exists is like trying to prove God the Father exists. This is not a task God has given to us. If you do not experience the Holy Spirit, you will not know Him and you cannot receive Him.
One very important fact to remember here is that the Holy Spirit is a living breathing being, the divine Holy Spirit of God and should never be referred to as ‘IT.’ ‘IT’ is an inanimate object, without thoughts, feelings or will, not a person. For a non-Christian who doesn’t know the Holy Spirit, it is understandable, but it is very sad when Christians refer to our God, our teacher, our comforter who leads us into all truths, as ‘IT.’
The Holy Spirit empowers us for the spiritual journey ahead. When we pray to God in the name of Jesus, the power and authority comes from God the Father through Jesus who instructs the Holy Spirit and He carries out the work; it’s fascinating!
